Sizing, made simple

The right size is everything with compression. Too loose and it won't do its job; too tight and it's no fun to wear. Here's how to nail it.

Let's get your measurements sorted

Grab a soft tape measure, somewhere to jot your numbers and a few quiet minutes. You've got this.

  1. Measure in the morning

Grab a soft measuring tape and measure on bare skin, first thing in the morning. There is usually less swelling then, so it's a good time to get your numbers down.

  2. Measure every point your garment asks for

Check the size chart for the garment you've got your eye on and measure every circumference it asks for. That might include your waist, hips, thighs, calves and ankles. Write each measurement down in centimetres. Different garments need different measurements, so don't skip a spot or assume every brand is the same.

  3. Keep the tape firm

Keep the tape level and snug against your skin, without twisting it. Follow the measuring instructions for your chosen garment, as some styles call for a firmer measurement than others. Measuring shouldn't hurt; if it does, stop and ask a trained practitioner for help.

  4. Match your numbers, not your usual dress size

Compare your measurements with the size chart for the exact garment you're choosing. Your everyday clothing size isn't always your compression size, and that's completely normal. Keep your numbers handy for our sizing tool below.

Between sizes? No need to wing it

If your measurements fall across different sizes, ask before ordering rather than guessing. Some garments have adjustable hook-and-eye fastenings, but the amount of adjustment varies by style. It isn't a reason to automatically size up or down, and not every garment has this fastening. If an off-the-shelf garment doesn't suit your shape, a trained practitioner can advise whether you need a custom-made option.
